HAPPY VETERANS DAY

Veterans Day is Tuesday and there will be ceremonies, parades and speeches and the president will undoubtedly lay a wreath at the tumb of the unknown soldier. The day will also bring back memories of the past when we were young and called to serve. Good memories of friend and the crazy times we had that only a veteran would believe, like my 3 months at Subic Bay. Other memories will return and these are the memories that should be passed on to our younger generation. They should know that war is not like it is portrait in the movies where you feel no pain, no fear, and the good guy always wins. They should know the truth, PEOPLE DIE. The biggest lesson we can pass on is that reason to go to war is not always what our president tells them and they should ask questions before volunteering to fight in any war. They should know that in war you are just a number and are expendable to be used and sacrificed to complete a mission and that most hero's had to die to earn the title and will be forgotten, except by their family and friends, in no time. For example SGT Paul Ray Smith. Does the name ring a bell. He was killed at Bagdad airport while manning a machine gun to save his men. He was awarded the medal of honor which his son accepted for him.George's first hero of the Iraq war.
So happy veterans day to all who served. Remember the good time and the bad and pass them on to our future veterans.
